welp, I made a mistake...

went in to drop off my time card and I stopped to talk to the guy there. He asked me how it was going and what all I had gotten done, so I told him about how I had spent the last two days doing nothing... Well... I kinda forgot that his dad is my boss here, so as I'm walking out I hear him on his cell phone, "hey Dad..." yeah, so at exactly 3:10pm, boss comes back (hasn't been here all week), and we spent the next hour talking about what he wants done. He gives me a software package still in the shrinkwrap, and tells me to go have fun for two weeks, but to absolutely know the software at the end of that time. He tells me exactly what he wants out of it and said it's up to me to go through the software and make it happen... so, yeah... I can do that...

anyways, the moral of this story is don't complain until monday...

Also, for anyone else who doesn't know what BOFH stands for.... go here :)

took this off a webpage I read this morning... I thought it was worth posting here :)

Be Nice to the DM

The DM takes a big risk by allowing a kender in his campaign. A kender shakes things up and can easily cause the party to stray from the path in which the DM originally intended. Therefore, be nice to the guy. He's obviously either very brave or very stupid, but he's still a cool happening guy. Also, he reserves the right to have a rock fall on your character, so it really helps to behave yourself.

::sings:: I'm so excited... and I just can't hide it... I'm.... ::stops singing:: sorry, didn't know anyone was listening....

anyways... so I meant to post something about my job tuesday, but here it is a day or three late... job is ok... pretty nice with one exception. I have my own computer which is good... it's actually spiffy... 1.9 Ghz P4, 512 Meg ram, 120 Gb HD, geforce2, LCD flatscreen monitor, cdrw, dvd... yeah, you get the point :) Unfortuately to use it, I had to change my name to Joe. This was apparently supposed to be Joe's computer, but he left, and rather than let me create my own login, the stupid computer guy here just told me to log in under his account... fun fun... Anyways, the computer is probably the spiffiest in the office... Overall, the job is good. I am doing blackhole engineering, so to speak... I go into a hole and no one sees me until I'm done or have a question. I've already had two projects in three days. One was a spreadsheet which is still in progress waiting for people; more on that later. The other was a database, and I have to say that I got dad gum good at programming the little quirks of MS Access in a day. I built a database robust enough in two days to show them that Access is just not capable enough to handle what they want. So I was supposed to go back to the spreadsheet, but it turns out the lady in charge doesn't know what's actually supposed to go into the spreadsheet... awfully hard to build what you don't know. And she even was like "can't you just build a general database and go back and fill in stuff later?" riiiiiight...

so here I sit... I have been sitting here for two hours with 30 minutes left to go. I have surfed everyone's blogs, I have read dilbert, and now I'm blogging... life is boring when you don't have any work to do, but you still have to stick around. Sure, I could leave, but I'd lose out on $25, and every little bit counts these days... besides, it's not like I could go visit deedee like I did two summers ago... I'd just go home and sit and surf, so I might as well stay here and get paid to do the same thing.

I had a pretty spiffy idea for a character last night... can't write anything about him here, though, because he will be in the upcoming campaign :) I figured it out and he would need to be 8th level to pull off what I want, and I figure a single 8th level character should be a pretty good challenge if made up properly :) man... I'm really gonna have to call someone and tell them about it because this is just cool :)

well... 15 minutes to go (I was typing with one finger to kill time)... makes capital letters challenging :) I think I'm gonna bring some headphones for tomorrow in case they still don't have anything for me to do.
10 minutes to go and I'm typing by dropping a pencil on the keyboard...

oh yeah... just thought of two things... 1) I get to round to the nearest 15 minutes, so I can leave 7 minutes early and still get full time :) 2) I came in 5 minutes early today, so I can leave at 5:25... take 7 minutes from 5:25 and you get 5:18. Now, it's 5:23... you know what that means???

I'm outta here!!

I am the great and powerful wizard of oz... or maybe not, but I really felt like saying that...

so, how does everyone feel about getting together thursday to hash out characters, history, and some general crap? I don't like just throwing stuff together at the last minute because I like to focus more on story than just hacking and slashing... I was originally thinking 7 levels per person, but now I'm thinking I might bump it up to 11th if everyone has played before... it could let people play with some prestige classes if they wanted. I won't say that's for certain yet, but I would be interested in everyone's opinionss (comment below).

one reason I want to get together to do this is because I like to be involved in character creation. I want to be present for the rolling of stats since I have a unique way of rolling stats. Also, since we'll be starting higher level, you'll get a certain amount of money to buy equipment and magical items. I also have to approve all magical items, and can trade higher powers for potential offsets, etc... Character creation is one of the funnest parts of gaming, imo, and I just like to be involved :) plus, knowing the characters and their histories, helps me to setup the campaign.

if anyone has any character ideas they want to discuss... email me!!! email me at tmberwolff at hotmail... (sorry, but I didn't want to write out the address online, even though it's probably on this page somewhere) I'd even entertain character ideas from a specific world as long as we can work it in...

gotta run.. more later....

well... I just finished catching up on some blogs that I haven't read... and I see that there are just as many votes against my website as there are for it... unnamed reviewers have said things such as "the navigation is ... arbitrary" and "I think there is a problem with the words mixing together"... I feel crushed... my one attempt to join the scripting world has failed... oh well... I should have known I couldn't compete with any real web designers... but hey... only when one of those web people put together a better interplanetary mission proposal or write a better grid generator will I be truly beaten and will throw myself off of the chapel of memories tower... twice... or more...

there... the old page is back up...

Now, for everything else... to sum up what's happened since I last updated... first, I decided to leave boulder... packed up and left the next morning, drove to los alamos. Hung out there for day or three and visited the base there and watched episode 2 from the second row of a small theater (not to worry, saw it again in the digital theater at majestic... spiffy)... got up saturday morning, drove home all in one shot... 17 1/2 hours... lots of time to drive and think... only got tired the last 30-45 minutes or so.

I may have a job now... find out tomorrow for sure... Reeves-Williams home builders wants to exploit, I mean hire me for the summer. I basically will be creating a database/3d spreadsheet to replace their current budgeting software, plus stuff that it doesn't do. On top of that, I have to learn prima vera something 3.0 and create a schedule for their home builders. They want to shave 11 days off their constuction time and it would seem I'm the man to figure out where these 11 days come from. Then I have to create a single schedule for all their homes that all the different crews can use... Then I have to integrate in all the different construction sites into this software package so they can build like 80 homes a month without a single subcontractor scheduling conflict... now, my uncle does database programming, and he gets paid $125/hour... now granted, he could probably do this in 3 hours, but still... and for the entire scheduling thing?? I mean, really!! he said he wants to hire a permanent IT person in the fall.... I hope he's gonna pay them more... so guess how much I'm getting paid... no, really... guess.... nope... $10/hour... better than their first offer of $9, but it's still explotation, I'm pretty sure...

Welp, chelsea's throwing a fit... I gotta run.....

Later

p.s. I get to see deedee on friday!!!!!! :)

Why does everyone wait until the moment I step out of the room, then they IM me, and then sign offline before I get back? I've had about 20 people do that today... well... ok.. more like 5 people do it many times.

Anyway, not much is up here... reading lord of the rings... almost done... it really picks up towards the end... Watched some movies... Let me just say that if Memento was a moo cow on an acid trip, it was but a single cow wandered from the entire herd of tripping cattle that is Mulholland Drive... Richard and I watched it twice... in a row... with David Lynch's 10 tips for understanding Mulholland drive... and it still didn't make sense... We end up getting online and finding a site that explained it... and it did make a bit more sense after that... but I don't recommend looking at those until you have watched the movie at least twice :)

I feel I should comment on the upcoming release of Episode II... yes, I will watch it right when it comes out... and for all you who aren't sure if you wanna go see it... Yoda has a fight scene!! I mean, come on... everyone would pay for that, right?? :)

I got my car worked on today... I don't know anyone left in colorado, so I just took a 3-4 mile hike while they were working on it... when I got back, they hadn't fixed anything or even really found out why the cruise control doesn't work (that's why I took it in), so they didn't charge me anything (not that I would have paid if they had), and I came back to the house... took a nap, ate a sammich, and talked to deedee... now I'm writing this... my day's aren't exactly eventful right now....

I think I'm gonna have to split up my role playing games this summer... If I can get ahold of mike read, I'm gonna see if he or one of his friends can run a game that caleb, chelsea, and myself can play in with him, and then I'll run one for the crew at amanda's... the kids really like playing with Mike, and well.. it would help the really large group problem a little... Plus, I really wanna play, dad gum it... :) I haven't actually played a character in over a year... maybe I'm going through withdrawl :) I think it would be nice to play a Serran Tempest :) either that or a Scroll Master (a prestige class of my own inspired by Brian's druid)... I guess we'll see, huh?

So what world does everyone want to play in? A custom-build, magic-limited world, or something like forgotten realms where magic grows on trees? or birthright where everyone has some cool super-power-like ability?

which brings us to the quote and question of the week... first the quote... this was said several weeks ago, I believe by Manda, but I just thought of it now for some reason...
"He's like that fly buzzing around your head when you're trying to diffuse a nuclear bomb" or something like that :)

And the question, inspired by one of our readers: Whipped Cream or Chocolate Syrup?

I guess that could inspire a second quote of the week:
the immortal words of Chris Rock, "I prefer syrup!"

disclaimer: the above quote does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the author of this blog :)

Finally, finally finally finally finally... I'm done with this semester... NEVER again will I take four grad courses at one time...

sorry I don't have much to write... I have lots to say, but considering I've typed 207 pages of labs, reports, and finals in the past week, my wrists hurt...

beware the over reaction... it may strike at any time from any direction....

also beware jealousy... just because your girlfriend spends 4 hours at a time on the phone with a guy, and cooks him lasagna from scratch, and stays over at his place until 1:30 in the morning, and the fact that he has a crush on her, does NOT mean she has a thing for him.. but it sure is easy to be a little paranoid when you're 1200 miles away...

now I'm gonna go back to reading... I have nothing to do but read for two weeks... I just finished two towers, and now I have return of the king.. after that, catch 22 and interview with a vampire... beyond that I'm open to suggestions... but I refuse to read that new star wars book.. despite the fact that they got a decent writer this time (r. a. salvatore), I feel no need to know the deepest desires of the jedi as they battle... I just want to watch them be cool... they don't talk for a reason when they're fighting :)

oh yeah... on the topic of gaming... I think we're all going to start around 7th level, just so you can start putting ideas together....

also, if anyone wants, I can just put a character together and just hand it to them (always fun for really short games, but not sure about a summer long game)

So far, we have: Mel, Richard, JP, Amanda, Caleb, and Chelsea... I can't remember if I heard a definate from Kris, although I would imagine he's in :) Also, possibly one unnamed person from Amanda, although it's already pushing the big group limit...

Also kinda need to figure out when everyone can play... Weekends are gonna be bad for me because I'm going to be spending time with Deedee on the weekends, and half of the weekends, I won't even be in memphis... so does anyone know of a particular weeknight which sounds good? if any?

lemme know....

I have lots of stuff to say, but no time to say it... so here's some tests

Feldin:

Rashad:

Antara:

And yes, for the maybe one person reading this that actually remembers Antara, I have turned him into a 3rd ed character. I rolled up his stats and was most impressed... Antara is a 17th level Wizard / 3rd level Fighter. his stats are
20 str
16 dex
16 con
20 int
16 wis
16 chr

sounds about right to me :)
He wears +5 leather and carries a +3 flaming katana of flaming burst.... not that he needs it :)
And the best part is... if things go right... my party of characters here is going to run into him tomorrow :) I really hope they don't try and fight him...

anyway... back to work... more later....
